In conjunction with the coming Chinese Lunar New Year celebration, many households will be doing their annual spring cleaning. Thus household garbage will increase tremendously in the next few weeks. Learning from past experience, I have instructed Majlis Perbandaran Seberang Perai (MPSP) to provide additional collection for bulk garbage (sampah pukal). These include old furniture, household appliances, equipment and garden waste. The additional collections are on top of regular Tuesday collection for household waste. Schedule for normal domestic waste will resume as usual (3 times a week).
This morning, I announced the extra collection schedule for bulk garbage for Bukit Mertajam area to the press. Below is the announcement notice. Schedule for other areas in Bukit Mertajam will be announced next week.
The extra collection is not to encourage residents to throw more garbage, but to provide convenience as well as manage the increasing load of garbage during this season. Here I would like to take the opportunity to encourage residents to reduce their waste as much as possible. We hope those who are clearing their old stuff will clear them “responsibly”, if an item is still usable and new, reuse it, or give it to those who may need it instead of just throwing it away.
