  1. I grew up in Bukit Mertajam and have lived here almost all my life. It is a wonderful place to live as it has almost everything you ever want. It’s a place where you can pick up a conversation with just about anyone you meet as the people of all races, are genuinely friendly. I guess this is because majority of the residents in BM are locals who have lived here all their lives.

One very important thing that few mention is that it is a great place to raise children. There aren’t too many ‘distractions’ like mega-shopping malls but there are great schools in BM. In many ways it is a sleepy old town where there’s not too much entertainment. BM can be very proud for having raised many great leaders and professionals.

Housing estates are mushrooming in ever corner of BM but sadly little attention is given to the environment. BM used to have many majestic rain-trees and even pine-tree like those that line Gurney Drive but all of these are now gone. There are very few public parks that the locals can go for recreation. The traffic is getting from bad to worse.

It is great to hear that you are launching this “I LOVE Bukit Mertajam” campaign. Yes, it’s about time the folks in BM come to realise what a great place they have and will work together to make BM one of the best town in Malaysia. YB Steven Lim I hope your campaign will be well received and successful.
